Commissioning of Chapter Number 001
Posted by Irish Veterans on Tuesday 7 April 2015

The Irish Veterans are pleased to announce the Commissioning of Chapter Number 001. The ceremony will take place at the White House in Kinsale at 13:00 on Saturday the 18th of April.

The Chapter will be named in memory of US Navy SEAL LT Michael P. Murphy, Medal of Honor, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in June 2005. The recent blockbuster film “Lone Survivor” is the story of his last mission.

Michael’s family have strong connections to Ireland, and to Co.Cork in particular. They have been hugely supportive of this project, to pay tribute to an Irish-American warrior and his fallen comrades.

Dan and Maureen Murphy, his parents, as well as his brother John and other family members will be Guests of Honor for the event. Also joining us will be a detachment of crew from the Warship USS Michael Murphy, Senior Ranking US Navy officers, and a number of US Navy SEALS, Michael’s brothers-in-arms.  The Irish Naval Service will have a representative detachment and Minister of Defence, Simon Coveney TD hopes to attend. The US Government will be represented by Lt Col Sean Cosden, the US Defense Attache to Ireland.
